After the break-up of the Soviet Union I travelled to all the
new countries and set up an ATC charges collection mechanism which
is still in operation under IATA Geneva. The total turnover is
about USD 250 million p.a. The mechanism has helped
channel the ATC revenues to supporting improvements to the
national air traffic systems in those countries.
In conjunction with the charges collection mechanism I
organised an ATC language training school in the ex-USSR countries.
About 1000 ATC controllers participated in the courses and acquired
the ability to communicate with international flights.
As Executive VP - Marketing at CSA in 1994-1995 I worked
towards transforming the airline into a competitive, western
style airline. This included the conclusion of a bilateral alliance
and code share agreement with Continental Airlines, bilateral code
shares with Lufthansa, Austrian, Swissair and other
airlines; the introduction of a new level of product as well
as a revenue management system and many more projects.
I set up the first privately operated Galileo GDS franchise
company providing GDS Galileo services in 11 countries of
Central/Eastern Europe and and made it a successful venture
I have published several books three of which are focused
on commercial aviation.
Since 2009 I have carried out many long distance VFR
flights in the USA, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania,
and most European countries. My major project was an expedition
called "European Islands from the Skies 2014" which
included about 200 flight hours over some 100+ islands in the
Mediterranean, the North and Baltic Seas as well as the Canary
Islands and the Faroe Islands.
