I made two trips to southern Africa – the first in February 2009 when I rented and old Cessna 172 and flew from Wonderboom airport at Pretoria to the south-west alongside the sea shore all the way to Cape Town. The return journey took us inland through Beaufort West and Kimberley back to Pretoria.
The second trip took place around Christmas 2010. We departed from Johannesbourg airport of Lanseria and flew over the Kalahari desert to the delta of Okawango river and then to Livingstone in Zambia. From there over the Caprivi Strip and the Namib desert and alongside the Atlantic coast back to South Africa. This time we flew in an aircraft that was significantly better – a relatively new Cirrus SR20.
